Bottoms unanimous pick for MVP

Allderdice was supposed to dominate City League girls basketball but nobody told perennial power Westinghouse. The two were heads and shoulders over the rest of the league with Allderdice going undefeated 16-0 in League play while Westinghouse was 14-2. Rounding out the winning teams were Brashear 12-4 and Perry 10-6.

As expected they led the way in All-City Team selections with both teams starting fives being named to the All-City Team. The Allderdice starters were Janay Bottoms and Lanise Saunders on the first team; DaiJai Beasley on the second team; Sydnee Abernathy, third team; and Taylor Lawson, honorable mention.

Westinghouse starters were Roishay Woods, first team; Jasmine Myers and Shanese Nelson, second team; Cassandra Flowers, third team; and Kayla Keys, honorable mention. Brashear had four players make the team and Peabody had two. The remaining four teams had one each.

Janay Bottoms was the unanimous choice for Most Valuable Player. Joining her on the first team are Taylor Smith from Schenley who joined Bottoms as a unanimous choice for first team, Woods from Westinghouse, Saunders from Allderdice, and Marritta Gillcrease from Perry. Second team members are Beasley from Allderdice, Nelson and Myers from Westinghouse, Latasha Fortson from Perry and Nyasia Middleton from Brashear.

The Coach of the Year was extremely hard to select. Allderdice was expected to win it all and did, yet on the other hand Westinghouse was supposed to have an off year, but finished with an outstanding 14-2 record. So who do you select? Phyllis Jones from Westinghouse or Dave Walchesky of Allderdice?

Well we selected Co-Coaches of the Year with the two sharing that honor. How could either of these coaches be overlooked? They both did great jobs getting the most out of their talent.
