Letter To The Editor…Don’t punish these young people

Dear Editor:

I was amazed at the board’s action in considering lowering the GPA just to play high school sports. What college in the NCAA would allow an athlete to play college ball just because he came from Pittsburgh with a 1.5 GPA? What an injustice to the athlete and where is the drive to succeed if he or she plans to attend college? If a minimum of a 2.0 isn’t being made in high school you can bet it won’t be made in college.

Remember, you have “watchdogs” in the administration, the NCAA and the media who are hired just for that reason. There isn’t a college in America that will put it’s rep on the line, nor the coaches, backers or alum especially for a Black player who just graduated from high school, from Pittsburgh, who has a GPA of 1.5 and who doesn’t have command of the English language enough to do an interview on ESPN.

DONT PUNISH THESE YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE THAT!

Good luck but it won’t work.
