Jazz Jam

CJ’s Restaurant & Lounge presents “The Roger Humphries & RH Factor Jazz Jam Session” at 8 p.m. at 2901-2911 Penn Ave., Strip District. There will be live jazz and fun every Thursday night. Romare Bearden exhibitions

The August Wilson Center presents two Romare Bearden exhibitions from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. The exhibit “From Process to Print Graphic Works by Romare Bearden” features 75 various prints by international artist Bearden. It will run through Sept. 12. The other exhibit, “Romare Bearden the Last Years Photographs by Frank Stewart” features photos that Stewart captured over the 13 years. There will be a Bearden Centennial Celebration from 2-8 p.m., which will include a lecture by Dr. Mary Schmidt Campbell and a discussion by Stewart. Also, on Sept 3. At 12 p.m. there will be a Bearden Print Workshop in celebration of the artist’s 100th birthday. For more information, call 412-258-2700.

Smooth Jazz

Club Duo presents Smooth Jazz Friday’s from 8p.m.-2 a.m. at the Holiday Inn University Center, 100 Lytton Ave., Oakland. Enjoy the evening with national recording artist, saxophonist Marcus Mitchell and DJ Brian Van Duser. AVA Lounge presents Live Jazz with The Interval Trio & Friends at 8:30 p.m. at 126 S. Highland Ave., East Liberty. Every Monday DJ J. The August Wilson Center Family Series presents “SWING! Mary Lou Williams’ Musical Adventure in the Land of Oo Bla Dee Based on Jazz at Lincoln Center’s ‘Who is Mary Lou Williams’” at 11 a.m. at 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. The audience will swing as they discover how Mary Lou Williams, “the little piano girl from East Liberty” became the “First Lady of Jazz” and a master of ragtime, stride, boogie-woogie, bebop and beyond. Join Sean Jones and the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra for an afternoon of fun interactive activities and deeply swinging music including, “Roll ’Em,” “Walkin’ and Swingin,’” and “In the Land of Oo Bla Dee.” There will also be a 1 p.m. performance.
