SEPT. 28—The U.S. Small Business Administration will host a Federal Contracting workshop that includes 8(a), HUBZone and Women Certifications from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Riverside Center for Innovation, 700 River Ave., 1st floor Conference Room, North Side. Base camp
OCT. 1—TiE Pittsburgh will host the Entrepreneurs Base Camp 2011-Entrepreneurs to the Rescue from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Carnegie Mellon University, 5000 Forbes Ave., Oakland. This all day event will include various workshops to help entrepreneurs generate ideas, strengthen one’s business plan and build a network that will bring success. OCT. 6—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series at 12:15 at the Downtown & Business branch, 612 Smithfield St., Downtown. The topic is “Finishing Well- Getting the Care You Want When You Need It Most.” Stacy Kacskowski, of the Allegheny County Library Association, will discuss Five Wishes, the first living will that talks about one’s personal, emotional and spiritual needs as well as one’s medical wishes. It is written in everyday language and helps to start and structure important conversations about care in times of serious illness. This is an essential overview of essential resources for all ages. OCT. 7—The Minority Business Opportunity Committee and the US Small Business Administration will host its Minority Enterprise Development Week 2011 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel, One Bigelow Square, Downtown. The theme is “Emerging Industries and Markets: A Blueprint for Success.” The keynote speaker will be Dr. Mitchel Nickols. There will be a luncheon and awards ceremony. OCT. 12—Duquesne University’s Small Business Development Center will host QuickBooks Advanced from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. The workshop will help one become more knowledgeable with the program and help one learn how to save time and money through its use. Topics discussed include inventory, sales tax, payroll, business credit cards, job costing and time tracking. This is for Windows users only. Registration is required and the cost is $45.
