QuickBooks advanced

OCT. 12—Duquesne University’s Small Business Development Center will host QuickBooks Advanced from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. The workshop will help one become more knowledgeable with the program and help one learn how to save time and money through its use. Topics discussed include inventory, sales tax, payroll, business credit cards, job costing and time tracking. This is for Windows users only. Registration is required and the cost is $45. OCT. 12—Robert Morris University will host a Graduate Studies Open House from 5-7 p.m. at Robert Morris University Main Campus, Sewall Center, 3rd floor. Awards gala

OCT. 14—The Western Pennsylvania Minority Supplier Development Council will host the 7th Annual Walk of Excellence Awards and Silent Auction from 6-10 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel Pittsburgh, One Bigelow Square, Downtown. The celebration is to recognize the achievements of minority-owned businesses and to honor the corporations and organizations committed to diversity. Reservations are required. Basics workshop

OCT. 15—SCORE Pittsburgh will host a Small Business Basics Workshop from 8:30-1 p.m. at the PNC-YMCA, 2nd floor, 236 Fifth Ave., Downtown. This workshop is facilitated by working professionals and will teach the tools needed to get new businesses off on the right start. Topics that will be discussed include business plan development, record keeping, taxes, financing, marketing and other legal aspects. Social media workshop

OCT. 18—Cindy Neky will host “3 Social Media Sites Every Consultant Should Use and Why” from 8-10 a.m. at Sigmas Conference and Event Center, 1717 Babcock Blvd., Pittsburgh. Necky is president of Marketing Pathways and a certified social media strategist and will teach the social media sites that are best for one’s business and which sites will make the greatest impact in getting solid leads and customers.
