(NNPA)—In an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, actor and comedian Eddie Murphy reveals a change in focus for his career and life. According to a highlight of the interview posted on the magazine’s website, the biggest news is Murphy’s decision to move away from making family movies.

“I don’t have any interest in that right now,” Murphy told Rolling Stone Senior Writer Brian Hiatt. “There’s really no blueprint, but I’m trying to do some edgy stuff. And I only want to do what I really want to do, otherwise I’m content to sit here [home] and play my guitar all day. I always tell people now that I’m a semi-retired gentleman of leisure, and occasionally I’ll go do some work to break the boredom up.”
In this extensive interview, Murphy also reveals he has grown up, according to CNN.com, and is confused about why people describe him as a recluse. “I leave my house all the time,” CNN reports him saying.
“But I’m not at all the Hollywood parties. I’m grown, and where else am I supposed to be? I’m supposed to be home…If I were out in the clubs every night, they’d be saying, ‘That’s a shame, look at him, 50 years old; he’s still out at these clubs.’
“Recluses are nasty, with long nails, don’t wash their a**…I’m too vain to be a recluse. But homebody, absolutely. I’m 50 years old, beautiful house, I’m supposed to be home, chilling.”
While there is nothing in the highlights that hints at the next project of any kind—except hosting the Oscars—it does seem to give real insight into the man Eddie Murphy is now. Basically, that he is not in a rush to do anything and that when he does something, it will be exactly what he wants to do and nothing else.
The Rolling Stone cover feature is in the magazine that was released to newsstands on Oct. 26.
