Christmas Party

DEC. 30—Schenley High School Alumni will host its 40th Annual All Class Reunion Christmas Party from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. at the New Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum, 7310 Frankstown Ave., Homewood. Kwanzaa 2011

DEC. 30—The Community Empowerment Association will host its Kwanzaa 2011 Celebration from 6-9 p.m. at the Cultural & Learning Institute, 7120 Kelly St., Homewood. Center Opening

JAN. 3—The Allegheny County Department of Human Services will host the opening of the Pennsylvania Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program Crisis Program Center from 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Human Services Building, One Smithfield St., Downtown. The center provides assistance to low-income households that are experiencing heating emergencies. The center will be open through March 30. For more information, call 1-800-851-3838.

First Fridays

JAN. 6—Champion Enterprises will host The New First Fridays from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. at the Club Health and Fitness Center, One Racquet Lane, Monroeville. This is an old school party to celebrate the New Year and will feature The Flow Band and DJ Mean Gee. There will also be line dancing from 8-9 p.m., vendors, prizes and more. Spirit of King

JAN. 12—Port Authority of Allegheny County, the Kingsley Association, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New Pittsburgh Courier will host the 2012 Spirit of King Award Ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Kingsley Association, 6435 Frankstown Ave., East Liberty. This year’s event will honor Dr. Edna B. McKenzie and Msgr. Charles Owen Rice. Registration is requested by Jan. 6. For more information, call 412-566-5259.

Holiday Tours

ONGOING—Allegheny County Parks Department and UPMC will host the Hartwood Acres Park Celebration of Lights from 6-10 p.m. at 200 Hartwood Acres, Pittsburgh. This is a park consisting of 629 acres of land, decorated with lights. The proceeds benefit project Bundle Up and other local charities. The cost is $12 per car and $3-$5 per person, per bus. Weather Shelters

ONGOING—The Allegheny County Department of Human Services Office of Community Services and Pittsburgh Mercy Health System’s Operation Safety Net will host its Severe Weather Emergency Shelter from 7 p.m.-7 a.m. at Smithfield United Church of Christ, 620 Smithfield St., Downtown. This is a safety shelter for people who are street homeless when the temperature drops below 25 degrees Fahrenheit. For more information, call 412-779-1329.

Clinic Opening

ONGOING—The Allegheny County Health Department will host its Influenza Vaccination Clinic at 3441 Forbes Ave., Oakland. The clinic will offer flu vaccines, while supplies last, Mondays through Fridays. Appointments are not needed. Fore more information, visit www. achd.net.
