Mobile, Ala. mayor apprehends intruder at home

MOBILE, Ala. (AP)—Mobile police say a man has been charged with burglary after Mayor Sam Jones found him in his garage and held him at gunpoint until officers arrived.

Jones’ spokeswoman Barbara Drummond says the mayor went to a grocery store Tuesday evening and returned to find his nativity scene was lit up, his truck had been tampered with and his garage door had been opened.

She says Jones drew his .38-caliber pistol and saw a shirtless man in the garage.

Drummond says the man walked toward Jones and when Jones warned him to stop, he went to his knees, stayed there and asked for a shirt.

She says Jones, a Navy veteran, called police, who arrested 47-year-old James Harvey Wilkerson of Moss Point, Miss., without a problem.
