Haiti healthcare

JAN. 26—Global Links will host a “Rebuilding the Healthcare System in Haiti” discussion at 6 p.m. at 4809 Penn Ave., Garfield. Program Officer Marisol Wandiga will facilitate the discussion on Haiti’s healthcare system and how Global Links is working to provide all Haitians with access to healthcare. Coin club

FEB. 4—The South Hills Coin Club will host its 52nd Anniversary Coin Show from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Pittsburgh South Hills, 164 Fort Couch Rd., South Hills. National College Fair

FEB. 8—The National Association for College Admission Counseling will host its Pittsburgh National College Fair from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, 1000 Fort Duquesne Blvd., Downtown. Representatives from more than 300 colleges and universities will be on hand to meet with students and parents about academics, student life, athletics, scholarships, financial aid and more. There will also be a session from 6-9 p.m. and on Feb. 9 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Registration is requested. FEB. 10—Carnegie Mellon University’s Center for Africanamerican Urban Studies and the Economy will host its 2011-2012 Speakers Series from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the university’s Baker Hall, Steinberg Auditorium, 5000 Forbes Ave., Oakland. Temple University Professor Bettye Collier-Thomas will speak on “The Nexus: Women, Religion, Race and Civil Rights, 1920-1965.” Refreshments will be served. FEB. 12—The Allegheny County Democratic Committee will host its Endorsements from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the IBEW #5, 5 Hot Metal St., South Side. This is an opportunity for candidates running in the April Primary to seek the committee’s endorsements. FEB. 19—The McKeesport Heritage Center will host its annual Black History Program at 2:30 p.m. at 1832 Arboretum Dr., McKeesport. Weather shelters

ONGOING—The Allegheny County Department of Human Services Office of Community Services and Pittsburgh Mercy Health System’s Operation Safety Net will host its Severe Weather Emergency Shelter from 7 p.m.-7 a.m. at Smithfield United Church of Christ, 620 Smithfield St., Downtown. This is a safety shelter for people who are street homeless when the temperature drops below 25 degrees Fahrenheit. For more information, call 412-779-1329.

Center opening

ONGOING—The Allegheny County Department of Human Services will host the Pennsylvania Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program Crisis Program Center from 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Human Services Building, One Smithfield St., Downtown. The center provides assistance to low-income households that are experiencing heating emergencies. The center will be open through March 30. For more information, call 1-800-851-3838.
