Raising children alone is too hard!

(NNPA)—Dear Gwendolyn:

I am 28 years old and I have two children, both boys. I desperately would like to move into a better neighborhood. At present we live in the ghetto and my boys are beginning to get into trouble. Last school year they were suspended three times. Where they go to school boys are bullying them. My boyfriend does not seem to be concerned. He has no job and has not had a job in five years. For three months I had given him the rent money, but apparently he spent it. The school counselor heard about my eviction and is trying to get us another apartment. Although, I would rather move into a house in an affluent neighborhood.

Gwendolyn, I wish I could receive one of those houses they are giving away to families. Right now I might have to move into a homeless shelter. I am convinced that raising children alone is just too hard.—Gladys

Dear Gladys:

Girl, I know you are not dreaming of taking that live-in man to an affluent neighborhood. He has no job and got you evicted by spending your rent money.

Let me tell you this: I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of women complaining about the hardship of raising children. It is overstated and not true. You don’t have two sons. Think about it. You have three sons. You failed to count the bum you have staying with you.

I know the economy is bad and people are out of work. But Gladys, come on now. When you gave him the rent money, that was proof you have a problem in your house. Do not put the blame of hardship on your sons. People will help a woman who is alone before they help a woman taking care of a man. I hope you didn’t tell me this sad story thinking I would feel sorry for you. Well, I don’t and I never attend—a “pity party.”
