Still in the early stages of his career, Patterson has experience in both the public and private sector. Now in his newest venture, as president and CEO of Corporate Diversity Associates, Patterson is focused on providing corporations and institutions with the tools to advance their diversity and inclusion efforts.

In 2008, Patterson was selected for Ebony Magazine’s annual list of up and coming leaders. He has served on the boards of both the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh and family services of Western Pennsylvania.

Patterson started his career as the programs manager of education and youth development for the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh in 2006. Two years later he became a field representative for Congressman Mike Doyle.

In his position with the congressman, Patterson served as liaison to the Federal Departments of Homeland Security, Immigration, State and Education, providing legislative and policy consultation to the seven-term Doyle and the constituents of Pennsylvania’s 14th Congressional District. Patterson remained in this position for more than three years.

In 2009, while working with Doyle, Patterson formed his own brand management and public relations firm, the Hawthorne Perkins Group. Some of HPG’s clients include Chuck Sanders Charities, SAVOY Restaurant, the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh and United Way of Allegheny County.

While studying politics and communications at the University of Pittsburgh, Patterson became a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and served as vice-president of the chapter for one year. Today, he remains active in the fraternity.

Patterson is also the chairman and founder of the Renaissance Group, a non-profit organization aimed at providing mentorship to at-risk inner-city youth. The organization also works to provide scholarships through the Renaissance Fund set up through NEED.
