‘Woke Up Black’

The Women & Girls Foundation and the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh present Filmmaker and Activist Mary Morten and her documentary “Woke Up Black” at 4 p.m. at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater, 5941 Penn Ave., East Liberty. This is part of the New Voices Pittsburgh Women of Color HERStory Month 2012 and International Women’s Day Celebration. “Woke Up Black” focuses on five Black youth, along with their struggles and triumphs into adulthood. Jazz Jam

Women of Dance

The August Wilson Center for African American Culture presents Dynamic Women of Dance at 8 p.m. at 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. This is an inspiring, collaborative event between the AWC Dance Ensemble and cutting edge choreographers Sidra Bell, Camille A. Brown, Kiesha Lalama and Kim Bears-Bailey. Together they mix a rich vision of dynamic choreography with the bold creativity of the Dance Ensemble. A portion of the performance contains adult content. Preservation Hall

Jazz Band

MCG Jazz presents the Preservation Hall Jazz Band at 8 p.m. at the MCG Jazz Concert Hall, 1815 Metropolitan St., Manchester. The band gets its name from the famous Preservation Hall, a music venue in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter. This band has taken its art form of New Orleans Jazz worldwide.
