Small Business Basics

MARCH 24—SCORE Pittsburgh will host its Small Business Basics from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at PNC-YMCA, 2nd floor, 226 Fifth Ave., Downtown. This workshop, which will be presented by professionals, helps new businesses get off to the right start by covering business plan development, record keeping, taxes, financing, marketing and legal aspects. MARCH 27—J. Duffy Consulting and Michael Couch & Associates Inc. will host its Dominating Markets with Value Seminar from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Sheraton Station Square, 300 W. This is an interactive workshop presented by Reg Gocke, of Marketing Value Solutions, on “How to Create and Deliver Superior Value Throughout the Customer Experience.” He will discuss the fundamentals of Customer value, the factors that are critical to quality from a market perspective and more. IRS Tax Specialist Diana Smith will facilitate this seminar and give information on quick and easy ways to e-file. This is free and open to the public. Members’ Networking

MARCH 28—The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host a Members’ Mixer at 5 p.m. at the Carnegie Museum of Art, Heinz Galleries, 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland. There will be a reception, a tour of the Charles “Teenie” Harris exhibit and a special poetry reading. Members should bring business cards for networking opportunities. Candidate forum

APRIL 11—The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host a Candidate Forum from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Rivers Club, One Oxford Centre, Downtown. This will be an opportunity to hear from candidates running for Pennsylvania State Representative District-24 about how they will impact small businesses in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Rod Doss, editor & publisher of the New Pittsburgh Courier, will be the facilitator. This is open to the public and light refreshments will be served. Registration is requested by April 10.
