Stangrecki said Smith was shot multiple times, a majority of them to his head. He died at the scene.

The gunman fled into an alley and was picked up by a vehicle, which police believe was a red or maroon sedan, possibly a Ford Taurus.

The person walking with Smith fled for cover and was not injured.

While there have been reports that retaliation shooting, Stangrecki said that he could not confirm anything, but that they are looking to see if the killing is connected to an incident that occurred two weeks ago at North St. Clair and Rippey Streets.

As of deadline for this publication, no arrests have been made and Stangrecki said as far as he knows there has not been one identified as of yet.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Pittsburgh Homicide Office at 412-323-7161.
