Candidate forum

APRIL 11—The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host a Candidate Forum from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Rivers Club, One Oxford Centre, Downtown. This will be an opportunity to hear from candidates running for Pennsylvania State Representative District-24 about how they will impact small businesses in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Rod Doss, editor & publisher of the New Pittsburgh Courier, will be the facilitator. This is open to the public and light refreshments will be served. Registration is requested by April 10. 401(k) seminar

APRIL 11—The Squirrel Hill Branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host “401(K)’s: What are the options and inherent flexibilities in your 401(k)?” at 6:30-7:30 p.m. at 5801 Forbes Ave., Squirrel Hill. Also Pomposini and Mike Corcetti, financial representatives from Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, will discuss how to maximize one’s profits from their 401(k). Business Series

APRIL 12—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host their Business Program Series at 12:15 p.m. at the Downtown & Business branch, 612 Smithfield St., Downtown. The topic is “Best Organizing Tips from the Pros.” A panel of members from the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers will discuss how to get organized at home, manage one’s time and increase one’s productivity at work. Business Leaders Breakfast

APRIL 13—The Chatham University Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship will host its Women Business Leaders Breakfast Series from 7:30-9 a.m. at the university’s James Laughlin Music Hall, Woodland Rd., Shadyside. Julie Hera DeStefano, a filmmaker, will be the guest speaker and will speak on the topic, “The Business of Documenting History: One Woman Filmmaker, 100,000 Women in the Military.” She will discuss how one woman developed the business behind the art and building a business behind one idea. Networking Conference

APRIL 13—Talk Magazine will host the 2012 Pennsylvania African-American Network Convention at the Holiday Inn University Center, 100 Lytton Ave., Oakland. The two-day convention will address employment opportunities in healthcare, finance and energy to foster networking and dialogue between African-Americans and other minorities across the state of Pennsylvania with employers and training providers to improve quality of life and more. Business With Allegheny County

APRIL 17—The Business Institute of the African-American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host “How to Do Business With Allegheny County” from 9-11 a.m. at the Regional Enterprise Tower, 425 Sixth Ave., Downtown. Ruth Byrd-Smith, director of Allegheny County Department of Minority, Women and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises, will discuss the Pennsylvania Unified Certification Program, Electronic Bidding at Allegheny County and the MWDBE Loan Program.
