CAUSE Lecture
APRIL 13—The Carnegie Mellon Center for African American Urban Studies and the Economy will host its Speaker Series 2011-2012 from 4:30-6 p.m. at the university’s Baker Hall, Steinberg Auditorium, 5000 Forbes Ave., Oakland. This will be a lecture and discussion with Michael Honey. He will speak on the topic of “Going Down Jericho Road: The Memphis Strike, Martin Luther King’s Last Campaign.” Honey will bring life to the magnetic characters that clashed on the Memphis battlefield. APRIL 13—The Mel Blount Youth Home will host its All-Star Celebrity Roast 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown, 600 Commonwealth Place, Downtown. APRIL 14—Gilda’s Club Western Pennsylvania will host a National Minority Cancer Health Awareness Month Celebration from 12:30-3:15 p.m. at 2816 Smallman St., Strip District. There will be an open house for those who have been touched by cancer to learn and experience what Gilda’s Club has to offer, along with a cooking demonstration, workshops and more. APRIL 17—The Allegheny County Elections Division must receive all Absentee Ballot Applications for the April 24 Primary Election by 5 p.m. at 601 County Office Building, 542 Forbes Ave., Downtown. Individuals who will be absent from their municipality on Election Day or who cannot get to the poles due to illness or physical disability can send in their vote. Community Meeting
APRIL 17—The City of Pittsburgh will host a Community Meeting from 6-7:30 p.m. at the West End Senior Center, 80 Wabash St., West End. There will be an “Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice” report and will be creating a plan to address identified housing products.
