Spring Fling
MAY 18—The August Wilson Center for African American Culture will host its Spring Fling event from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at 980 Liberty Ave., Cultural District. Youth Conference/Benefit
MAY 18—The Ozanam Basketball Program will host a Youth Leadership Conference from 5-8:30 p.m. at Ammon Recreation Center, 2217 Bedford Ave., Hill District. This is to promote leadership skills for the youth and equip them with life skills to face tomorrow’s challenges. There will also be a benefit dinner and silent auction held on May 19 from 6-9 p.m. at Damon’s Bar & Sports Grill, US Steel Tower. March for Justice
MAY 19—Lighthouse Cathedral will host a March for Justice for Kevin Buchanan at 10 a.m. at 810 Fisher St., Mt. Oliver. Buchanan was gunned down in April. This is also in response to several of the shootings and homicides that have occurred in the inner city. For more information, call 412-431-2230.
Celebration of Reading
MAY 19—The United Black Book Clubs of Pittsburgh will host the 9th Annual Celebration of Reading from 12-4 p.m. at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Homewood Branch, 7101 Hamilton Ave., Homewood. The special guest will be Brother Abdul Akbar Muhammad, the Nation of Islam International Representative, and he will speak on the topic: “Migration: Africans in Motion-Resisting, Rebelling, Running, Transforming and Forming. There will also be a reception, where Muhammad will discuss the Cuban Medical School Scholarship program. Registration is request by May 17.
