OVERTIME

:10 I don’t know where you’ve been the past 25 years but “The Champions Live” Sports and Entertainment Talk Show is still alive and kickin’. “Smokin’ Jim Frazier,” Ken Ogilvie, Kevin Cameron, Ed Steve, and Rayco “War” Saunders join me…your host…every month at a local location to talk sports. It is directed by Judy Ogilvie and produced by Alan Lee and airs weekly on PCTV Channel 21 in Pittsburgh. And don’t forget our motto… What we don’t know about sports…We make up as we go along!!!

:09 Speaking of “Champions Live,” and I was, you can see us live up close and in living color June 10 at the Annual Penn Hills Community Festival held at the 3 Lakes Golf Club, 6700 Saltsburg Rd. This month’s special guests will be Pittsburgh Steeler and hometown star Wes Lyons, former Pitt superstar Rod Rutherford, and world boxing champion Rayco “War” Saunders. Showtime is at 1. Don’t—You—Dare—Miss It!!!

:08 I swear somebody must have slapped the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kendrick Perkins’ mother with the mean ugly stick when she was pregnant with him. The boy is never happy, never smiles…and he’s just mean, just mean, I tell ya.

:07 Happy Birthday to all the Corvette Club members who celebrated at The Champions last First Friday Par-Tay! The Champions and the United Rays Vette Club celebrated and closed out their year long First Friday run as a major success. Raising much needed funds for The Champions “Safe Summer” programs and raising the awareness of the people on a variety of important community concerns. We’ll see ya’ll in September at the Annual End of the Summer White Party. (No you city league grads, it’s not a party just for White people…c’mon man!!!)

:06 Oh yeah…speaking of birthdays, and I was. Happy Birthday to one of my favorite all time people…and a true champion, Jennifer Bruce…I ain’t tellin’…if you want to know how old she is ask her yourself. (But I will tell you this…she ain’t lookin at “40”—oops my bad!)

:05 Is Kevin Garnett amazing or what? I love it when an old school cat gets it done. If he continues to play like this and Bosh doesn’t come back, I still like Boston to beat the Heat. That’s right I said it. Now put it in your back pocket and take it to the bank!!! Spurs win the west, now shut up! Neal, what is wrong with you man!

:04 Ya’ll just don’t give a damn about O. J. Simpson huh??? A brother makes a few mistakes and you just write him off… “THAT’S MESSED UP!”

:03 Plans are now underway for the first ever Pittsburgh City League/Catholic League All Sports Hall of Fame. Yours truly and former All City League Hoop Star and Coach Larry Anderson along with several other standouts including Vern Phillips, Clarence Hopson, Fred Lucas, Craig Prosser, Sam Black and the Courier’s own Ulish Carter and Aubrey Bruce are about to bring the city league the greatest thing since a Ricky “Black Magic” Coleman no-look pass, or a Dwight “Iceman” Clay jump shot, a Larry Richardson now you see it now you don’t between the legs around the back…oh you know what I am sayin, or a Sam Clancy…Bill Clarke or Kenny Durrett slam dunk…ok, ok, ok, I am done. But you know I could go on forever…Jeep, Sonny Lewis, Puffy, Chuck Anderson, Mel Bennett, DeJuan Blair, June Bug c’mon ya’ll…you know…yes you do!

:02 A truly sincere and heartfelt good-bye goes out to one of the city’s greatest players and true champions whose name fits in with those I just mentioned. I was just informed several days ago by a family member that Larry “Juice” Walker recently passed away in California. All you need to know about how good “Juice” was is that when you played his team you hoped to God he didn’t show up that day!!!

:01 I also want to send a fond farewell to another true champion, my ex-college roommate and the man that not only taught me how to play basketball but how to understand the game. The passing of the Late Great Otis Lockhart. Otis was as smooth as silk in a summer breeze.
