Every November the Pittsburgh Penguins hold a food drive at a home game and collect funds for Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. These funds donated by the fans purchase Thanksgiving turkeys plus holiday meal components which the Pens distribute to 100 families in the Hill District.

Penguins exec Kim Slater-Wood said, “The food drive is one of our community outreach activities for at least 4-5 years and it is one of our ways we really give back to the community. We enjoy it, it makes people happy and we know that we are helping feed families.”
The Penguins organization, citing their desire to continue supporting their community, decided to find a way to hold this event this year. A donation to the Penguins organization provided the turkeys and other food. Penguins Head Coach Dan Bylsma and President & CEO David Morehouse, members of their families, and several other Penguins personnel staffed the distribution.
“For my family and for me personally to be here and share, share in the community and be able to give, it’s one of the most rewarding things we get to be a part of and we get to do,” Buylsma said.
