Angela Simmons launches ‘Bikini’ hair extension line

Angela Simmons believes that hair has the ability to make a woman feel beautiful. That’s one of the reasons she decided to team up with Indique Hair to create Bikini, her own line of hair extensions.

“Hair extensions speak to me because I wear different styles,” said Simmons, 24.

Bikini hit boutiques in New York and Boston on June 21.

The first extension in the line is a combination of Virgin Indian wavy and curly hair by alternating sections of Indique Hair using an innovative blending process.

“This combination of hair has never been done before; it’s great for the summer. Usually if you want wavy and curly you have to buy two different kinds of hair to get a look,” she said. “You’re getting the best of both worlds with Bikini.”

Simmons said she named the brand bikini because the beachy texture of the hair.

“It’s definitely great to be able to change your hair and having hair extensions allows you to change your look and try new styles,” she said.

According to www.indiquehair.com. Bikini is created by alternating pure wavy and a custom-made wave pattern-created exclusively for this texture-along the length of the weft. This custom-made wave was created by using a non-damaging steaming process.

Simmons rose to fame as a member of the Joseph Simmons family reality show, “Run’s House,” which chronicled the life of Run-DMC rapper, hip-hop pioneer and Angela’s father, Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons and his family from 2005 to 2009 on MTV.

Due to the success of “Run’s House,” Angela and her sister, Vanessa, starred in the spin-off reality show hit, “Daddy’s Girls” in 2009 which showcased Simmons’ oldest daughters as they started their own tennis shoe business “Pastry” in Los Angeles after moving there from the East coast.

Angela and Vanessa run and design the “Pastry” shoe brand, which serves up colorful, fun sneakers for teen girls and adult women. Pastry was launched in 1997 under the Simmons’ family line of footwear, Run Athletics. The sisters named the shoe Pastry because of their love of sweets.

Although the sisters enjoy working together, Angela felt it was time to branch out on her own.

“We’ve always worked on our own projects. I am a fashion designer and a philanthropist and I work with the children’s miracle network and PETA. My sister is coming out with lingerie line soon,” Simmons said.

In addition, Angela edits a monthly magazine called “Angela’s Rundown,” which is targeted at youths ages 14-19 and covers teen topics like fashion style and music.

Simmons also has other projects in development including her own clothing line and several television opportunities.

Bikini retails from $210 and up depending on length—which varies from 10 inches to 12 inches all the way up to 22 inches. Portions of the proceeds of Bikini sales will be given to Cancer Care.

Cancer care is a charity that provides free, professional support to anyone affected by cancer.

“I love children and I take to children that are sick. It brightens my day to talk to them and encourage them,” Simmons said.

Bikini can be purchased on line by visiting www.Indiquehair.com.
