A menswear runway fashion show will set the tone for Pittsburgh fashion shows in 2013 while spotlighting a successful mentoring program that has been serving hundreds of youth in need since 2003.
HIM will take place Sunday, Jan. 13 at 3 p.m. at Diesel Club Lounge on the South Side and will feature special music, a cookie buffet, and chic raffle items. It is conceived and produced by Pittsburgh fashion icon LaMont Jones, an award-winning fashion critic, consultant, and stylist.
Amachi Pittsburgh is a faith-based mentoring organization dedicated to supporting youth affected by parental incarceration through mentoring, family reunification and advocacy. It is the only organization in Allegheny County that focuses exclusively on children of the incarcerated, esteeming them as children of promise.
“Very close to my passion for serving those in need is my passion for fashion, so I’m extremely excited for the upcoming show,” said Anna Hollis, executive director of Amachi Pittburgh. “LaMont Jones has been a gift that keeps on giving to Amachi Pittsburgh, starting as a mentor years ago to a young man missing his father due to incarceration, by sharing his story of the power of mentoring, and now by connecting us to a community of potential supporters through this type of event. We enjoyed being the beneficiary of his Summer Blues show, and now through this unique production called ‘HIM.’”
Noting that January is National Mentoring Month, Jones said he “can’t think of a better time and way to share a spotlight with such a valuable agency.”
The show will feature eclectic ensembles shown on a dozen men, with two female models accenting the elevated runway. Jones has organized several semi-private fashion shows at venues ranging from The Pittsburgh Center for the Arts to Shuman Center and promises that his first large-scale public show will be an unforgettable event.
“It’s been in the conceptual and developmental stage for close to two years,” said Jones, who was an architect of Pittsburgh Fashion Week and was inducted into the Pittsburgh Fashion Hall of Fame in 2011. “I can’t wait to give it to Pittsburgh. It represents inspiration from seeing more than 1,600 fashion shows and more than 30,000 models over the last 13 years.”
The event is open to adults age 21 and older. Admission is $20 in advance and $25 at the door. The charity will receive a portion of proceeds.
