The First Step
    FEB. 7—The University of Pittsburgh ‘s Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence will host “The First Step: Mechanics of Starting a Small Business” from 7:30-10 a.m. at the University of Pittsburgh, Mervis Hall, Roberto Clemente Drive, Oakland. This seminar explores the size of one’s market and what marketing tools will be needed to attract customers, learn about business structures, access helpful resources, learn more about funding options and more. Breakfast Series
    FEB. 8—The Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship at Chatham University will host its Women Business Leaders Breakfast Series from 7:30-9 a.m. at Chatham University, Woodland Road, Shadyside. Business Networking Mixer
    FEB. 9—Classic Events! will host a Business Networking Mixer at 5:30 p.m. at Hosanna House, 807 Wallace Ave., Wilkinsburg. The theme is “Celebrating Black History Month: Saluting the African-American Experience in Wilkinsburg.”     In celebration of Black History there will be recognition of several individuals who have the honor of being the first African-American to excel in their specific field. Business Finances Workshop
    FEB. 13—The University of Pittsburgh’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence and the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host “Focus on Business Finances: Getting the Picture” from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Riverside Center for Innovation, 700 River Ave., North Side. The workshop will explore how financial decisions can impact one’s ability to achieve future goals of business development and expansion. Presenters will be Ray Vargo of Pitt’s Small Business Development Center and Rhonda Carson Leach of the Urban Entrepreneurship Program. Registration is required. Brown Bag Lunch Series
    FEB. 13—Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania will host its Brown Bag Lunch Series from 12-1 p.m. at 1650 Main St., Pittsburgh. The topic will be “Let’s Make a Deal: Effective Negotiation Strategies for Entrepreneurs.” Rachel Koch will facilitate this seminar that will help to better the leverage of one’s negotiation skills and help others get past their negotiation anxiety.     FEB. 14—The University of Pittsburgh ‘s Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence will host “The Truth About Dishonesty: Managing Risk & Combating Fraud” from 7:30-10:30 a.m. at the University of Pittsburgh, Mervis Hall, Roberto Clemente Drive, Oakland. Bill Nugent and Lee Baierl will facilitate this seminar designed to protect one’s business. Baierl will share his own experiences of being a victim of fraud.
