Thurgood
The Pittsburgh Public Theater presents their MADE IN AMERICA series with the play “Thurgood” at 8 p.m. at the O’Reilly Theater, 621 Penn Ave., Cultural District. The one-man play stars Montae Russell as Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American Supreme Court Justice. The play tells the story of Marshall, from his beginnings in Baltimore, Md., to his rise to the highest court. “Thurgood” will run through April 7. Art Exhibit
Kaceem Omari Barnett presents “New Art, New Day, New Time” at the Hill District CDC Community Development Business Center, 2015-2017 Centre Ave., Hill District. This is Barnett’s first exhibit and is curated by his mentor Amir Rashidd. The exhibit will run through March 22. On March 9 from 5-7 p.m. there will be an artist’s talk. Motown Laser Show
The Carnegie Science Center presents a musical Laser Show from 7 p.m.-12 a.m. at the Carnegie Science Center, Buhl Planetarium, One Allegheny Ave., North Shore. Every Friday and Saturday night the Science Center will offer a spectacular sight and sound experience with its dazzling light show that features a wide range of musical styles and genres. Festival
The Kelly Strayhorn Theater presents the “SUNSTAR Musical Festival: A Tribute to First Ladies of Jazz” at 8 p.m. at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater, 5941 Penn Ave., East Liberty. Interpreters will deliver songs of emotion and power from legendary jazz vocalists from Ella to Lena. Performers will include Spanky Wilson, Etta Cox, Kenia, Tania Grubbs, Roger Humphries and more. Straightening Combs

Kim El shares a story of the repercussions of low self-esteem and overcoming depression in Urban America. She takes the audience on a journey seen through the eyes of an African-American female coming of age. The performance will run through March 31.
