K. CHASE PATTERSON

The New Pittsburgh Courier is proud to welcome back K. Chase Patterson as the master of ceremonies for this year’s Fab 40 awards reception. After serving the same position at the 2012 awards reception, Patterson has become a Courier favorite.

The Awards Reception will be held on Friday, March 22, in the Main Ballroom of the Fairmont Pittsburgh Hotel.

The annual honors a select group of young men and women recognized by the readers of the New Pittsburgh Courier for their outstanding accomplishments. This group represents an era where more doors are opening to African-Americans than ever before. Our Fab 40 are not only taking advantage of these opportunities, but are already reaching back to make sure others don’t fall behind.

Patterson, a former recipient of the Fab 40 award, is the president and CEO of Corporate Diversity Associates LLC, a consulting firm aimed at assisting corporations and institutions in reaching their diversity and inclusion goals. He also runs a public relations firm, The Hawthorne Perkins Group, which includes many notable clients. Prior to launching CDA in 2011, Patterson served as the field representative to Congressman Mike Doyle, in which he served as a liaison to the federal departments of Homeland Security, Immigration, State and Education, providing legislative and policy consultation the Doyle and the constituents of Pennsylvania’s 14th Congressional District. He also managed Education and Youth Development for the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh and established the organization’s Black Male Leadership Summit, now known as the Black Male Leadership Development Institute.

While Patterson is driven professionally, he is just as dedicated to serving his community. He is an active member of the Pittsburgh Unit of the NAACP, where he served as as a member of the board of directors and youth director, the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh, the Urban League Charter School, The MGR Foundation and the immediate past chairman of the Adonai Center for Black Males. He has also served as a member of the board of directors and assistant regional vice president of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and a founding member of the Renaissance Group, which mentors and provides scholarships for youths seeking higher education.

Along with being a recipient of the New Pittsburgh Courier’s Fab 40 award in 2003 and 2009, Patterson has received many accolades for his service, which include being one of Ebony magazine’s 30 talented young leaders under 30, and most recently in 2012, being selected as one of Whirl magazine’s Pittsburgh’s 50 Finest and Pittsburgh magazine’s Pittsburgh’s 40 Under 40, just to name a few. In 2013 Patterson was named an Unsung Hereo in Business by the Ivy Charitable Endowments.

As a past recipient, Patterson says the only advice he has for the honorees is, “To continue to work hard and spend time really focusing on giving back to those who come after us.”

Corporate Sponsors for the Fab 40 Event are UPMC, Propel Schools, United States Steel Corporation, the University of Pittsburgh and Real Times Media.
