CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — Tyga (TY’-guh) performed at Harvard University despite opposition from critics who signed a petition seeking to keep him away over what they call his “violently misogynistic lyrics.”

The Grammy-nominated rapper performed at the nation’s oldest university for the Yardfest concert April 13.

The Harvard Concert Commission and College Events Board announced they retained Tyga despite a petition bearing more than 2,000 signatures. The petition had prompted university administrators to urge organizers to reconsider letting the rapper headline the event.

The Boston Globe reported organizers had apologized for failing to put on an inclusive event.

Tyga is signed to Lil Wayne’s Cash Money Records. He just released his third album, “Hotel California.” His hits include the Grammy-nominated “Deuces,” with Chris Brown.

Tyga’s publicist hasn’t returned a message seeking comment.
