Pittsburgh gets new low-power AM radio station
PITTSBURGH (AP) – A new radio station has hit the airwaves in Pittsburgh.
WZUM, 1550 AM, began broadcasting Thursday. The station’s automated format features rhythm-and-blues from the 1960s to 1980 featuring artists like Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Sly & the Family Stone.
The stations based in nearby Braddock had operated as WLFP until its business talk format went off the air in May.
The new station is owned by Ed DeHart and Stephen Zelenko doing business as AM Guys LLC.
The station’s signal is 1,000 watts during the day and 4 watts at night. The station will stick with the automated format while technicians perfect it over the next few weeks. After that, the station may try to add local hosts and national news.
Pa. teen held in sex assault, suspected in others
PITTSBURGH (AP) – A teen charged with publicly molesting a woman as she walked to a Pittsburgh bus stop is suspected in three similar attacks in the last several days.
Pittsburgh police have so far charged the 17-year-old with grabbing and fondling a 24-year-old woman near a bus stop late Wednesday night.
But police say based on the facts of that case and the teen’s description, they believe he’s responsible for indecently assaulting three other young women in separate late-night incidents since June 26.
Police are not identifying the teen, because he’s being prosecuted through the Allegheny County Juvenile Court system. Police say the teen is on probation for a similar incident involving a 16-year-old girl. He was found guilty in juvenile court of trying to rape a 16-year-old girl after she stepped off a bus last August.
Mom: Teen burned, 2 others hurt by Pa. fireworks
APOLLO, Pa. (AP) – A woman says her 14-year-old daughter had to be tread for second-degree burns to her legs and at least two other children were hit by debris when a fireworks shell exploded near a crowd during a Fourth of July display at a western Pennsylvania high school football field.
Lisa Culp, of Kiski Township, tells the Valley News Dispatch of Tarentum (https://bit.ly/16TkYCM ) that her daughter, Brook Wright, was burned on her legs. The girl was released from the burn unit UPMC Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh early Friday.
The Associated Press could not immediately reach Culp on her cellphone.
The incident occurred about seven minutes into the fireworks show at Owens Field in the Apollo-Ridge School District, about 35 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
Culp says at least two other children were hit by debris from the exploding shell.
