A recent finding about the benefits of watermelon on erectile dysfunction in men has been published in medical journals, like Urology. It seems researchers have discovered the fruit contains an enzyme that is related to normal male functioning. The enzyme is called citrulline.
WHAT IS CITRULLINE?
Citrulline is used to treat Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, fatigue, muscle weakness, sickle cell disease, and erectile dysfunction. It works by increasing the supply of ingredients the body needs to make certain proteins and by opening up veins and arteries to improve blood flow–something that is important for normal male performance.
Approximately 75 percent of men with cholesterol-Ânarrowed coronary arteries have some level of erectile dysfunction. Researchers have found that citrulline is found naturally in watermelon. One study showed that men who ate citrulline experienced up to a 68 percent increase in monthly male performance.
HOW CITRULLINE WORKS
Citrulline is converted into arginine, an amino acid, which produces nitric oxide. Nitric oxide relaxes blood vessels and improves blood circulation throughout the body.
HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED?
In order to consume enough citrulline to make a difference, a man would need to eat about 3-4 servings of watermelon per day. However, researchers have found that yellow watermelon has four times the amount of citrulline as red watermelon, which means an average male could consume one piece a day and get the same results.
