Journalism Workshop Deadline
JULY 12—Applications for the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation’s Frank Bolden Urban Journalism Workshop are due. The workshop, which will be held Aug. 3-11, and Point Park, encourages high school youth from diverse backgrounds to enter the journalism profession. They will meet with instructors, who are employed in the media, for a week of training in meeting deadlines, producing and delivering a television and radio news program. Pittsburgh Blues Festival
JULY 19—Peoples Natural Gas will host the Pittsburgh Blues Festival 2013 at Hartwood Acres, Pittsburgh. The annual festival, which runs through July 21, will feature blues artists such as Joe Louis Walker, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, The Nightwalks with Billy Price and more. Summer Speaker Program

Household Chemicals Disposal
JULY 27—The City of Pittsburgh will host its annual Safe Disposal of Common Household Chemicals from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Allegheny County Second Avenue Plaza Lot, under the 10th Street Bridge, Downtown. There will be a cash only fee of $2 per gallon. Acceptable items will include aerosol cans, paint products, automobile fluids, batteries and more. SummerFood Program
ONGOING—The Allegheny County Department of Human Services will host its SummerFood Program at more than 100 sites throughout the county. Children up to age 18 and intellectually or physically disabled individuals 19 and older will be eligible for a free breakfast, lunch and recreation program.
