Journalism Workshop Deadline
    JULY 12—Applications for the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation’s Frank Bolden Urban Journalism Workshop are due. The workshop, which will be held Aug. 3-11, and Point Park, encourages high school youth from diverse backgrounds to enter the journalism profession. They will meet with instructors, who are employed in the media, for a week of training in meeting deadlines, producing and delivering a television and radio news program. Hair Show
    JULY 14—Magic Palace and Luxurious Looks will host the Show Up & Show Off Hair Xplosion 2013 from 5:30-10 p.m. at the Sheraton Station Square, 3000 W. Station Square Dr., Station Square. Pittsburgh Blues Festival
    JULY 19—Peoples Natural Gas will host the Pittsburgh Blues Festival 2013 at Hartwood Acres, Pittsburgh. The annual festival, which runs through July 21, will feature blues artists such as Joe Louis Walker, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, The Nightwalks with Billy Price and more. Class Reunion
    JULY 19—The Peabody High School 30th Class Reunion Committee will host the 30th Class Reunion at 5:30 p.m. at Savoy Restaurant, 2623 Penn Ave., Strip District. There will be a red carpet event, along with a weekend full of other events. For more information, call Terina Hicks at 412-532-6728.

Summer Speaker Program
    JULY 20—The McKeesport Regional History and Heritage Center will host its 2013 Summer Speaker Program at 2 p.m. at the Center, 1832 Arboretum Dr., McKeesport. The guests will be Jim Wudarczyk and Tom Powers from the Lawrenceville Historical Society. They will present the topic, “Death at the U.S. Alle­gheny Arsenal: More to the Story.” This program is free and open to the public. For more information, call 412-678-1832.

Household Chemicals Disposal    
    JULY 27—The City of Pittsburgh will host its annual Safe Disposal of Common Household Chemicals from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Allegheny County Second Avenue Plaza Lot, under the 10th Street Bridge, Downtown. There will be a cash only fee of $2 per gallon. Acceptable items will include aerosol cans, paint products, automobile fluids, batteries and more. SummerFood Program
    ONGOING—The Allegheny County Department of Human Services will host its SummerFood Program at more than 100 sites throughout the county. Children up to age 18 and intellectually or physically disabled individuals 19 and older will be eligible for a free breakfast, lunch and recreation program. Wilkinsburg Farmers’ Market
    ONGOING—The Wilkinsburg Community Development Corporation will host the Wilkinsburg Farmers’ Market from 3-6 p.m. at the Parking Lot, between 732 and 744 Ross Ave., Wilkinsburg. The market will be held every Thursday through Nov. 21.
