First Step
JULY 17—Duquesne University’s Small Business Development Center will host the “First Step: Business Start-Up Essentials” workshop at Duquesne University, Rockwell Hall, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. This free seminar is for individuals without previous experience. Topics that will be discussed are employee issues, business structure and formation, government procurement, major components of a business plan and more. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with a consultant at a later time. Registration is required. For more information, call 412-396-1633.

 

Second Step
JULY 19—The University of Pittsburgh’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence will host “The Second Step: Developing a Business Plan” from 7:30-10 a.m. at Mervis Hall, Roberto Clemente Dr., Oakland. Attendees will learn about operational and production planning, conducting market research and creating financial spreadsheets to attract funding for one’s business. Breakfast Meeting
JULY 19—The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host a Special Breakfast Meeting at 8 a.m. at the Rivers Club, One Oxford Center, 301 Grant St., Downtown. The guest speaker will be Daniel Fitzpatrick, president of Citizens Bank. This will be an opportunity to meet the bank’s new president and learn about the plans for small businesses. Responsive & Responsible Bidding
JULY 24—The Diversity Resource Center of the Riverside Center for Innovation will host the “Responsive & Responsible Bidding” Workshop from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at 700 River Ave., North Side. Elizabeth Bowers, of dck North America LLC, will present the key elements in putting together a comprehensive bid. Registration is required and space is limited. Winning Sales Team
JULY 24—Sandler Training by Peak Performance Management will host a “Business Leaders Workshop: Developing and Growing a Winning Sales Team” from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn Southpointe, 1000 Corporate Dr., Cannonsburg. Sean Coyle will offer strategies to increase revenue growth and drive significant increases in profitability per client, per deal, per region and per sales person. Registration is required. Business Series
JULY 25—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host its Business Series from 12:15-1:15 p.m. at the Downtown and Business Location, 612 Smithfield St., Downtown. The topic will be “Lunch and Learn: Navigating Change at Work.” Professionals from Duquesne University’s School of Leadership and Professional Advancement will facilitate a discussion focused on understanding workplace change; how one can thrive in a turbulent environment; and how to manage one’s stress and attitudes associated with the change.
