Summer Speaker Program
JULY 20—The McKeesport Regional History and Heritage Center will host its 2013 Summer Speaker Program at 2 p.m. at the Center, 1832 Arboretum Dr., McKeesport. The guests will be Jim Wudarczyk and Tom Powers from the Lawrenceville Historical Society. Household Chemicals Disposal
JULY 27—The City of Pittsburgh will host its annual Safe Disposal of Common Household Chemicals from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Allegheny County Second Avenue Plaza Lot, under the 10th Street Bridge, Downtown. There will be a cash only fee of $2 per gallon. Acceptable items will include aerosol cans, paint products, automobile fluids, batteries and more. Southern Summer Breeze
JULY 28—Champion Enterprises will host its Soft Southern Summer Breeze from 6 p.m.-12 a.m. at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, 6300 Fifth Ave., Shadyside. This is an old school party that will feature vocalist Sandy Green, along with DJ Sly Jock and a special honoring of WAMO’s legendary Brother Matt. Black Family Reunion
AUG. 2—The Community Empowerment Association will host its Black Family Reunion & Cultural Arts Weekend at Mellon Park, Penn Ave., Pittsburgh. The theme is “Advancing Our Agenda: By Building Urban Model Neighborhoods.” The weekend will feature a live concert by The Chi-Lites and Roy Ayers, along with other local acts. Sickle Cell Symposium
AUG. 7—Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC will host the Sickle Celle Disease Symposium from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the John G. Rangos Sr. Research Center, Children’s Hospital of Pgh of UPMC, 4401 Penn Ave., Bloomfield. Topics for the symposium include Sickle Cell Disease and the Brain, Hydroxyurea, an Update on Pulmonary Hypertension in Sickle Cell Disease, and more. SummerFood Program
ONGOING—The Allegheny County Department of Human Services will host its SummerFood Program at more than 100 sites throughout the county. Children up to age 18 and intellectually or physically disabled individuals 19 and older will be eligible for a free breakfast, lunch and recreation program.
