Black Cable TV Ratings for Week July 8 – 14
When the not-guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman trial was announced Saturday, July 13, Black households rushed to the all-news cable channels for details. CNN was the primary beneficiary, with 1.1 million watching continuous, in-depth programming on what most thought was a surprising and disappointing outcome. HLN also attracted news seekers, but MSNBC didn’t make the Top 25 for the week.
BET again took the title of the week’s biggest winner among the Top 25, with 9.8 million viewers for six shows. VH1 was second in popularity, posting 7.6 million across four programs. USA network was third with just three million for three shows.
According to Nielsen data, 29.9 million black viewers watched the Top 25 cable shows, a decline of six percent from the previous week.
