Review: Washington and Wahlberg are 2013’s dynamic duo in 2 Guns

In this action-packed comedy, Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg star in “2 Guns.” Both leading secret operative lives, undercover DEA agent Bobby Trench (Washington) and Naval Petty Officer Marcus Stigman (Wahlberg) are on a quest to recover $43 million they initially stole from a Texas bank.

After getting involved with many different government departments and a big drug cartel, they both have to fight their way to freedom. Once real identities are revealed, Trench and Stigman realizes that it’s much easier to get their hands on the money if they just work together.

There are a lot of twists and turns as the pair bursts onto the scene with inappropriate jokes, slick guns tricks, and street knowledge to claim their innocence and livelihood. Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg always play the same role. Similar to his roles in “Inside Man,” “The Bone Collector,” “Man on Fire” and “Out of Time,” Washington is the wise cop who saves the day with his charm, quick wit and tactical strategies, whereas, Wahlberg is the bad boy comparable to his previous roles in “Pain & Gain,” “Contraband” and “Four Brothers.” When you put the two of them together, it’s hard not to fall in love. Two beautiful men!

Robin Thicke’s gorgeous wife, Paula Patton, played DEA Trench’s broken hearted girlfriend, Deb. Also a DEA agent, Deb is mixed up in with some bad Navy men on a desperate attempt to get rich quick. Patton’s character looked dingy and strung out. I’m not quite sure if that’s the new sexy but she didn’t look like her ravishing self. If men don’t enjoy the nude scene with Paula Patton, then they’ll definitely enjoy the non-stop warfare and mayhem.  And I can’t forget about the ladies, because Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg side by side as the attractive Ebony and Ivory is enough for any woman to be excited.

The movie questions the crookedness of government officials and law enforcement while also insinuating that in every government branch lays corrupt personnel with hidden agendas. Are the CIA and other US service organizations as unscrupulous as recent movie portrayals or is this all just make believe? I am not a paranoid left wing philosopher but you have to wonder if some US government officials are sleeping with the enemy.

3.5 Stars: In theatres Aug. 2, “2 Guns” makes this summer that much more enjoyable. Surely you can’t wait until it hits the Red Box, grab a friend and check it out!
