Small Business Basics
AUG. 10—The Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship at Chatham University and SCORE Pittsburgh will host its “Small Business Basics” Workshop from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the university, Mellon Board Room, Woodland Road, Pittsburgh. This informal workshop is for women who are interested in starting a business or expanding their current one. Experts will discuss business planning, financing, bookkeeping, legal issues pertaining to small businesses and more. Registration is required and a continental breakfast will be served. AUG. 15—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host its Business Series from 12:15-1:15 p.m. at the Downtown & Business location, 612 Smithfield St., Downtown. The topic is “Identity Theft: The Facts and Prevention.” J. Bruce Hammerle, of Financial Crimes Task Force of Southwestern Pennsylvania will facilitate this seminar that will teach the facts about how identity theft takes place, how to report it and how to fix the damage to one’s credit and good name. Developing A Business Plan
AUG. 16—The University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center will host its Second Step: Developing a Small Business Plan from 7:30-10 a.m. at Mervis Hall, Roberto Clemente Dr., Oakland. Attendees will learn all that is needed about operational and production planning, conducting market research and creating financial spreadsheets to attract funding for one’s business. Leadership Breakfast Series
AUG. 20—Duquesne University’s School of Leadership and Professional Advancement will host its Leadership Breakfast Series from 7:30-10 a.m. at the Duquesne University Power Center Ballroom, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. The topic will be “Navigating the Toxic Workplace.” Guest presenter Deborah Holland will shine a light on the many issues that employees confront in a toxic work environment and will explore the options for navigating the environment or pursuing a career change. The End of Illness
AUG. 21—The Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence at the University of Pittsburgh will host “The End of Illness: A New Way to Look at Your Health” from 7:30-10:30 a.m. at the Duquesne Club, 325 Sixth Ave., Downtown. AUG. 22—Toshiba Business Solutions will host a Technology Show from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Heinz Field, Press Box Dining Room, 100 Art Rooney Dr., North Shore. Attendees will learn how to improve their company’s core business processes. The event will include lunch and a complimentary tour of the field, locker rooms and stadium. Health Equity Summit
AUG. 23—The Pennsylvania Department of Health, Office of Health Equity; Highmark Blue Shield; UPMC; the University of Pittsburgh; the Family Council of Central Pa.; and more will host the 2013 Regional Health Equity Summit from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Regional Alliance, 850 Cranberry Woods Dr., Cranberry. The theme is “Advancing Health Equity in the 21st Century.” The summit is to initiate discussions for awareness and of strategies to reduce diabetes for vulnerable populations in western Pennsylvania.
