Slaughter named a Sr. VP of Epilepsy Foundation

Dr. Howard B. Slaughter Jr. joined the Epilepsy Foundation Western/Central Pennsylvania as its senior vice president of public policy and development on Aug. 5.

The mission of the EFWCP is to lead the fight to stop seizures, find a cure and overcome the challenges created by epilepsy.

“We are extremely pleased Howard has decided to make the move to the Epilepsy Foundation Western/Central Pennsylvania. We are looking forward to working with him and I know that he will be a valued asset on our team,” said Judith K. Painter, EFWCP president & CEO. “We’re pleased to welcome him and look forward to having him working with us to advance our mission.”   

Dr. Slaughter will play a key leadership role in making strategic decisions affecting the EFWCP’s fundraising and public policy. He will be the primary liaison for public policy with the Epilepsy Foundation National Office and coordinate statewide advocacy efforts with the Epilepsy Foundation Eastern Pennsylvania, while simultaneously working with staff and volunteers from the agency’s Harrisburg and Johnstown offices.

Dr. Slaughter will continue to be involved in regional and state-wide initiatives through his participation on several boards which include: The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, where he serves as the policy chairman; The Pittsburgh Foundation, The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh, The Howard Hanna Free Care Fund Foundation, Mount Ararat Community Activity Center, the Operational Committee of the Pennsylvania Community Development Bank and as a member of The Pennsylvania Society.

The EFWCP is dedicated to the prevention, control and community understanding of epilepsy/seizure disorders. Its nationally recognized services include public education, information, referral, employment training, advocacy, summer camp, community education events, seminars and workshops. The EFWCP endeavors to improve the quality of life for persons with epilepsy/seizure disorders and to dispel the myths, stigmas and misunderstandings associated with it.
