Straight out of the ATL to New York comes ‘Fro Fashion Week. For the first time, FFW showcased what’s new and next in the world of natural hair on September 7 at Kai Studios in Brooklyn.

The show presented looks crafted by six new and emerging designers hand-selected from a nationwide contest. Hosted by veteran natural hair vlogger Rochelle Graham (BlackOnyx77), GOTHIX highlighted dark trends for women with textured hair this fall.

Below are highlights from this season’s show.

A mainstay of ‘Fro Fashion Week is the celebration of curvy women–which comprise much of the ‘Fro Fashion Week demographic.

“This show is about the everyday woman–who also happens to be a fierce naturalista,” says Valaira Sa-Ra, Executive Producer of the ‘Fro Fashion Show.

“We celebrate this woman by featuring a plus-sized designer for our finale, which ends the show on a high-energy note!”

This years’ plus-sized designer was “I AM Designs” by Antoinette Middleton, accentuated with gothic-themed accessories by Necessories by Raqui.
A true realization of a vision, the Fall Fro Fashion Week marked the first time the show has travelled outside of its well-established Atlanta market.

“It was always my dream to see ‘Fro Fashion Week in New York during New York Fashion week, as a way to say to curvy girls everywhere that your beauty is celebrated, too” says Tarin Boone. “It’s overwhelming to see everything come together that you’ve waited for.”

The New York natural hair community came out to congratulate ‘Fro Fashion Week’s successful debut.
