Heinz Hall Garden Plaza to Welcome Crowds for Free Event Friday, Sept. 20th

The 30th NewsRadio 1020 KDKA Spaghetti Breakfast takes place Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, 5:00-9:00 AM, at the Heinz Hall Garden Plaza at Sixth and Liberty, Downtown. The public is invited to attend the free event featuring a broadcast of the KDKA Morning News with Larry Richert and John Shumway.

The event was created as a station promotion by former KDKA host John Cigna who passed away May 20, 2011 and became an annual tradition.  The breakfast attracts thousands of Pittsburghers on their way to work with KDKA personalities and local dignitaries including Allegheny County Chief Executive Rich Fitzgerald serving piping-hot plates of penne pasta, sausage, bread and all the fixings.  KDKA Morning News co-host Larry Richert looks forward to the event each year.  “My first KDKA Spaghetti breakfast was 1989. I couldn’t believe how many people showed up. After all these years I am still amazed at the response of our listeners. I’m making myself hungry just thinking about it!”  John Shumway his co-host adds, “I love the looks I get from people when I mention Spaghetti and Breakfast in the same sentence. But if they join us once, sometime the following August they’ll ask ‘When is this year’s Spaghetti Breakfast?’”

The KDKA Spaghetti Breakfast is made possible by DelGrosso Foods, Kuhn’s Market, Ricci’s Italian Sausage, Lamagna Cheese, Cellone’s Bakery, Common Plea Restaurant and Catering, Oakmont Bakery, Brown Dog Java, Renewal By Andersen, Mr. Waterheater, Pittsburgh CLO, Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, Spodek Insurance, Hospice Compassus, Residential Home Funding, Allegheny County Bar Association and Giovanni’s Pizza and Pasta Downtown.  The Little Sisters of the Poor, a charity Cigna supported will collect monetary donations, canned food as well as any remaining supplies.
