Pittsburgh Startup NoWait Launches App to Help Feed Fans Quickly During the City’s Big Upcoming Sports Weekend

As thousands of people prepare to head to the North Shore for this weekend’s jam-packed sports weekend, the Pittsburgh-based tech startup NoWait is making sure no fan in the area will go hungry with the launch of their new consumer-facing app, which allows diners to remotely add their names to restaurant wait lists and dramatically reduce their wait time.

With both the Steelers playing at Heinz Stadium and the Pirates – who have just locked in their first winning season in 20 years – playing next door at PNC Park, the city has a reason to celebrate this weekend, and nearby restaurants are expecting big turnouts.

In light of this celebration (and the long anticipated wait times) the iPad based wait list and seating management tool that is currently being used by thousands of restaurants across the country is now launching a consumer-facing app. The app launches first in Pittsburgh this weekend and will launch nationally in early 2014.

“NoWait is an excellent example of an innovative tech leader. Their use of technology to help diners make the best use of their time is greatly expanded with the launch of their consumer app, allowing diners to virtually put themselves on the restaurant wait list. I’m proud to say Pittsburgh is the first city to have this technological option for diners,” said City Councilman and Democratic Nominee for Mayor William Peduto.

While a weekend like this would normally mean that go-to restaurants in the area like McFadden’s, Rivertowne and Jerome Bettis Grille are backed up with long lines of people, NoWait’s new technology will allow fans to add their names to these restaurants’ wait list from wherever they’re enjoying the game, so they only need to make their way to the restaurant when their table is ready.

“Pittsburgh is known for its big-time sports fans, and as technology is becoming a major player and game-changer, it’s exciting to see these two important sectors for the city merge this weekend,” said NoWait CEO Ware Skyes.

Launching citywide this weekend, NoWait’s new app allows Pittsburgh diners to:
• View real-time waits of Pittsburgh-area restaurants
• Add their name and party size to a restaurant’s wait list
• View and track their place in the overall wait line
• Reduce their wait time from up to 90 minutes, down to 5 minutes

NoWait has been beta testing this new consumer-facing app this month, and has received a 97% approval rating, with most guests remarking that the app is an indispensible feature for restaurants.

The NoWait app is available in the Apple app store:
