Darkins leaves WAMO to become communications director at Mt. Ararat

PITTSBURGH, PA, October 8, 2013 – Event management and public relations professional Orlana Darkins Drewery has accepted the position of director of communications at Mount Ararat Baptist Church, 271 Paulson Avenue, in East Liberty.

Her responsibilities will include managing all aspects of communications and public relations for the church pastored by Reverend William H. Curtis.

Prior to accepting the director of communications position, she worked as the director of marketing and special events for WAMO100 owned by Martz Communications Group since the company made its debut in the city in June 2011.

“I am looking forward to utilizing my media, public relations and event management skills and extensive experience to enhance the already effective God-centered mission and ministry of Mount Ararat Baptist Church,” said Darkins-Drewery.

The Penn State University graduate entered public relations with the New Pittsburgh Courier and would move on to work with Ketchum Public Relations as well as with Sheridan Broadcasting Corporation (WAMO 106).

She is also the president of The Darkins Group, an event management and public relations company whose signature event is The Shyne Awards, a premiere awards ceremony that celebrates the positive achievements made by young adults.

The Darkins Group is also known to coordinate many of the city’s major events and book A-list superstars to perform for major Pittsburgh events.
