Not only is the New Pittsburgh Courier America’s Best Weekly, but it is also Pennsylvania’s Best Weekly.

Last week, winners were announced in the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association Foundation’s 2013 Newspaper of the Year Award. The Courier won first place awards in five of its division’s categories—Newswriting Excellence, Layout and Design, Editorial/Opinion Page Excellence, Special Section and Promotion.

“I congratulate the Courier team for their continuing pursuit of excellence in newspaper production, as these five first place awards signify,” said New Pittsburgh Courier Editor and Publisher Rod Doss. “It is my pleasure to work with this distinguished group of talented professionals.”

The Newspaper of the Year contest is held in August and gives Pennsylvania news media companies the opportunity to showcase the efforts of their entire staff.

The awards will be presented at the Newspaper of the Year Awards Brunch on Nov. 8, held during the PNA’s annual convention in Bethlehem, Pa.
