(CNN)–We’re used to celebrity feuds, but this standoff Gwyneth Paltrow’s reportedly in is a little different.

The 41-year-old actress is rumored to be in a tiff with Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter for some weeks now, after reports said the actress wasn’t pleased with a story the magazine was working on.

The New York Times reported in early September that Paltrow had even emailed close associates to tell them to steer clear of VF should the magazine come calling for interviews.

“Vanity Fair is threatening to put me on the cover of their magazine,” Paltrow reportedly said in the email message, according to the Times. “If you are asked for quotes or comments, please decline. Also, I recommend you all never do this magazine again.”

While Paltrow’s pals may have indeed heeded that supposed missive, VF is moving ahead anyway, as editor Carter told London’s The Times magazine this weekend.

“We started a story on her. We have a very good writer and it’ll run,” Carter said, via E! News. “Well, she sort of forced my hand.”

Besides, Carter added — he’s not unaccustomed to Hollywood’s occasional bite.

“We wouldn’t be doing our job is there wasn’t a little bit of tension between Vanity Fair and its subjects,” the editor said. “In any given week, I can expect to hear from a disgruntled subject in Hollywood, Washington or on Wall Street. That’s the nature of the beast.”
