• Pitt ACC Basketball tips off tonight and clearly it’s the exciting start of a new kind of basketball here in Pittsburgh. Tonight’s game is a warm-up against San Diego University but trust me, the heat is coming . . . in the form of North Carolina, Duke, N.C. State and others. But I expect Pitt to hold tight. Defense wins games and Jamie Dixon’s game is defense!
• The St. Louis Cardinals will win the World Series on the back of their superior pitching. Boston is no door mat, but I see the Birds popping the cork in six games.

• Congratulations to Terrelle Pryor for having the smarts at such a young age when he graduated from Ohio State University to tell Coach Tomlin and the Steelers he wanted to get away from Pittsburgh and all its distractions, of which there were many. Word to the reader . . . every college bound student-athlete that can go away from home should give it a major consideration and the same can be said after college if the pros are on your radar screen.
• The Steelers beat Oakland in Oakland by double digits. Here’s to Pryor having a good game, but coming up short. Hey friends are friends, but business is business.
