Health & Blast
    NOV. 7—G-Tech and ReEnergize will host an East End Health & Energy Blast from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Kingsley Center, 6435 Frankstown Ave., East Liberty. The theme is “A healthy home breeds a healthy life.” This is an opportunity to learn more about cost saving energy programs and home improvement services for homeowners, renters, ­seniors, low-income ­residents and more. Diabetes Expo
    NOV. 9—The American Diabetes Association will host a Diabetes EXPO from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, 1000 Fort Duquesne Blvd., Downtown. The theme is “Learn how to be healthy, active and live well with diabetes.” The expo will include free screenings, healthy eating demonstrations, workshops, Divabetic stage activities and more. Basketball Day Camp
    NOV. 9—The Kenny Durrett Youth Organization will host its 2013 Basketball Day Camp from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Barack Obama Academy, 515 N. Highland Ave., East Liberty. Darnell Dinkins, a Schenley High School alum and former NFL Player, will be the guest speaker. Registration is required and a waiver must be signed. Healthcare Worker Showcase
    NOV. 9—Wilkins Community Center will host the Healthcare Worker Showcase from 4-7 p.m. at Wilkins Community Center, 7604 Charleston Ave., Pittsburgh. The evening, which celebrates healthcare workers, will include a fashion show, vendors, food, gift bags, speakers and vocalist Beverly Taylor. Tickets are available. Financial Aid Workshop
    NOV. 11—Surface Stripe-ing Painting LLC, the Hill House Association, The Hill Education Council and NeighborWorks will host a Financial Aid Workshop from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Blakey Center, 1906 Wylie Ave., Hill District. This workshop is for middle and high school students and their parents with the belief that the provision of early and accurate information can support students who are thinking of higher education opportunities. NAACP Meeting
    NOV. 12—The Pittsburgh Unit of the NAACP will host its Executive/General Meeting at 7 p.m. at Freedom Unlimited, 2201 Wylie Ave., Hill District. All members are encouraged to attend. For more information, call 412-471-1024.

OASIS Tutoring Sessions
    NOV. 13—OASIS will host its Intergenerational Tutoring Training Session from 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Macy’s Department Store, 400 Fifth Ave., 11th floor, Downtown. OASIS is looking for mature adults who want to help children in their neighborhoods learn to read by giving one hour a week. All materials, books and supplies will be provided.
