Autism Speaks at Chefs Create Pittsburgh 2013

Elise The Diva Chef and Lynn Swann

I had the pleasure and privilege of attending the inaugural Chefs create event for the Greater Pittsburgh Chapter of Autism Speaks, held at the Fairmont hotel downtown. Fourteen chefs featured small bites inspired by an individual on the Autism Spectrum.

The event kicked off with cocktail hour accompanied with complimentary hors de oeuvres. There was also opportunity to participate in a silent auction and to win raffle prizes, one of which was an autographed jersey and photo with Steelers hall of famer, and honorary chairperson Lynn Swann.

When the double doors of the ballroom opened the atmosphere engulfed you in tantalizing aromas. Fourteen tables featured their inspired small bites.

All of the dishes that I had at the event were very tasty; but there were four dishes that were certainly stand outs!

Coming in at number 4….. Christopher Noonan and Ricky Kirsop’s stir fried sea bass encrusted with ginger and scallions finished with ponzu vinaigrette served with fried rice cakes.

Chef Kevin Watson from Savoy

Number 3….Kevin Watson’s butternut squash filled chocolate ravioli with lobster claw meat in a lobster basil cream sauce.

Chef Donato Coluccio from Donato’s

At number 2….Donato Coluccio’s fried veal meatballs over donatos house salad of heirloom lettuce, gaeta olives, ceci beans, pepperoncinis, and gorgonzola cheese. (Drum roll please…..)

Clenching the number one spot in my heart, with his Indian inspired curried citrus red snapper ceviche. Full  of flavors like red curry, jalapeño, and cilantro…. served with crispy plantain chips was Brian Kennedy of Seviche.

Bottom line, I give the Chefs create event for Autism Speaks, 5 stars.  It was a sparkling event, very well organized; from the food to the atmosphere set by the speakers, and DJ.  Hands down the best charity/ food event I’ve been to all year. What a great cause!
