MOVING AWAY FROM HOME—The Campus Living Alliance hosted its Residence Hall Gratuity Class of 2013 in a morning of pre-college activities at Sixth Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Parents attended a session on preparing their children to leave home as well as how to continue to support them while living on campus. Students participated in workshops discussing physical and emotional health led by Marion Green, UPMC-Mercy, and Damon Young, a contributor for Ebony Magazine, led the discussion about adjusting to life away from home on Campus. Culmination of this event included the presentation of a gratuity to each participant. Each student received items to use in their on campus residence, including an iron, ironing board and bedding. Dedicated to helping students and their families prepare for life after high school, the Campus Living Alliance volunteers Minerva Thomas, Bettina Taylor, Sandra Lewis, Krista Taylor, Debra Watts and Chris White-Taylor annually host this event to carry out their organization’s mission.
