LOS ANGELES (AP) — Tavis Smiley says PBS is renewing his late-night talk show for two years.

That will keep the “Tavis Smiley” show airing through 2015 on public TV stations nationwide, Smiley said Wednesday. The program is in its 10th season.

Smiley said he is proud of remaining competitive in the late-night talk show market and adding diversity to it. He is a rare African-American host in an arena dominated by white males.

Smiley interviews celebrities including Tom Cruise and Mary J. Blige along with guests in public affairs.

Wal-Mart, which has funded “Tavis Smiley” throughout its PBS run, will continue its support, Smiley said.

He also has hosted quarterly “Tavis Smiley Reports” for PBS and is heard on two Public Radio International shows.
