71,513 fans witnessed a strong effort by the black and gold on Sunday as they conquered their division rival Cleveland Browns for the 22nd time in 25 tries. The game belonged to the Steeler defense as they overwhelmed the Browns offense, rendering their efforts futile.
The Steelers forced four turnovers, three fumbles (two forced by Troy Polamalu) and an interception returned for a touchdown by William Gay. The defense was ferocious and obtained five sacks along with nine quarterback hits. They roughed up Jason Campbell so badly that he was forced out of the game with a concussion. On this day, I will admit, the team looked like the Steelers of old on the defensive side of the ball.
Jason Worilds had an “All Worilds Day” as he was in the offensive backfield the majority of the time. He garnered five tackles but more importantly and far more menacingly for Cleveland, he had six quarterback hits. Worilds has certainly come into his own the last few weeks and is showing everyone that he deserves that starting outside linebacker job.
Another difference maker has been Will Allen. Since his return, you can see the secondary playing better. He led the team in tackles last week against the Lions and picked the ball off too, this week he added 4 tackles and a fumble recovery. He’s a ball hawker and that’s what a team who failed to convert turnovers needed, a guy who has a nose for the ball and helps gain field position for the offense.
