BALTIMORE—A backstage conversation with Jaheim immediately revealed the new-millennium, R&B singer’s true appreciation of his “old school” musical forefathers.
“Marvin (Gaye), Teddy (Pendergrass), Sam (Cooke) and of course Luther (Vandross) are high on my list of influences,” he said, prior to hitting the stage a day before Thanksgiving, at a downtown Baltimore venue.
During his Nov. 27 “Appreciation Tour” at the Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric, Jaheim left the sold-out, 2,000-seat venue all-abuzz, following a 90-minute performance that displayed the singer’s deeply-soulful roots and innate ability to connect with his audience.
In a room packed to capacity, mostly reflecting his wide appeal amongst the ladies, the 35-year-old newskool balladeer did what he does best—sing songs of love and happiness.
