Corey Bourbonniere never dreamed that being chosen to participate in the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s summer intensive program one year would lead to him being one of ballet’s Corps de Ballet dancers for five years.
“I started in ballet seven years ago and to a part of this great company after dancing for such a short time is amazing,” said Bourbonniere who grew up in Rhode Island and received his dance training at the State Ballet of Rhode Island and the Heritage Ballet also in Rhode Island and summer intensive programs at the American Academy of Dance and Texas Ballet Theater.
Now he will be performing the pivotal role of Drosselmeyer in the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s version of “The Nutcracker.”
The show will be performed at the Benedum Center through Dec. 29. Tickets, which start at $25.75 each, can be purchased by calling 412-456-6666 or visiting www.pgharts.org.
“Drosselmeyer is the one who orchestrates the whole ballet and tells the story to the kids in the audience,” Bourbonniere said. “This is the second time that I have been in the ‘Nutcracker’. The show is changed each year and the director does that so that people who come to see it again and again see a different show each time. It is constantly evolving and something is always being added.”
