For some it may have been Black Friday, but for more than 200 it was the annual Pittsburgh Council of Men dinner dance at the Comfort Inn in Harmarville. On Nov. 29, guests enjoyed a scrumptious tasty down dinner, fellowship and plenty of dancing. We were also introduced to the newly elected president of the PCM, Larry Victum, along with the newest PCM member, Michael Hobbs.
The Pittsburgh Council of Men was founded in May of 1972 by the late Fred Gladney Sr. and Algia Gary Jr. In May of 1973 they became a non-profit organization. Currently the organization owns a 40-unit four story housing complex called Shady Park Place in North Braddock, for handicapped and elderly residents. This project represents a major effort by an African-American men’s organization in the Pittsburgh area. The PCM also presents scholarships and makes contributions to numerous charities.
