JAN. 16—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will host its Business Series from 12:15-1:15 p.m. at the Downtown & Business location, 612 Smithfield St., Downtown. The topic is “Mentoring in Pittsburgh: A Panel Discussion.” Representatives from local nonprofit organizations will discuss how they facilitate mentoring opportunities for corporations, small businesses and the general public. PowerBreakfast Meeting
JAN. 17–The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host its PowerBreakfast Meeting at 7:30 a.m. at the Rivers Club, One Oxford Centre, 301 Grant St., Downtown. The guest speaker will be Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald. He will discuss the state of Allegheny County. Reservations are required. Strategic Planning
JAN. 21—The University of Pittsburgh Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence and the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host the “Strategic Planning Workshop: Getting Your Business in Order for 2014” from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Koppers Building, 9th floor, 436 7th Ave., Downtown. Ray Vargo, director of the Small Business Development Center, and Rhonda Carson Leach, director of the Urban Entrepreneurhip Program, will discuss the S.M.A.R.T. goals, which is a framework for setting goals used to evaluate where one is in their strategic business planning. There will be two-parts to this workshop. The first will include an interactive exercise to help determine how to be accountable to their goals. The second phase will feature how to identify and target the appropriate financial indicators for business growth and success. Registration is required by Jan. 17 and includes a box lunch. Networking Luncheon
JAN. 23—The Katz Graduate School of Business Executive MBA Worldwide and The Center for Executive Education will host the CONNECT 2014 Networking Luncheon from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Rivers Club, One Oxford Centre, 301 Grant St., Downtown. JAN. 25—The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Downtown & Business branch will host a Post Holiday Gadget Lab at 2:30 p.m. at 612 Smithfield St., Downtown. This is for individuals who purchased a new gadget this holiday and want to know how to get the most out of it. This is an opportunity to speak with resident Gadget Lab experts about how one can access thousands of books, magazines, songs and more through eCLP. For more information, call 412-281-7141.
